Coach Chelsea (pronounced Chel-See-Ah), founder of Vision Step Team, was born and raised in Tacoma, Washington, with deep family roots stretching across generations. A proud graduate of Bellarmine Prep, she found her creative voice early through poetry, spoken word, and performance—later falling in love with choreography and stepping during her high school years.
After attending Marquette University with dreams of becoming a doctor, life redirected her toward her true calling: working with children and families. She returned home to Tacoma and earned her degree in Early Childhood Education, specializing in school-age care and child development from birth through adolescence. While working at Boze Elementary and the Boys & Girls Club of South Puget Sound (Eastside Branch), Coach Chelsea saw the need for culturally grounded, confidence-building spaces where young people—especially Black girls—could thrive. From that vision, Vision Step Team was born in 2016. Now a child and family advocate with nearly two decades of experience and a local elected school board leader, Coach Chelsea continues to create programs rooted in love, joy, and purpose. What began as a single step team has grown into a full youth empowerment movement that uplifts the next generation through the arts, mentorship, and leadership development. Vision Step Team isn’t just about performing—it’s about becoming. |
